Simplify, Simplify and Simplify. Recalling Redesign Project

By Julia G. January 12th, 2016

I have recently finished working on a wonderful project. I enjoy creating design for small e-commerce stores so it was a great experience to take part in custom kids’ clothing website redesign project – The Patchery.  They do cool stuff on the website: in a few simple steps you can design T-shirts, dresses, hoodies and other clothes for children. The clothes are tailored according to the design created and delivered right to customer’s door.

My aim was to improve the current design concept. I tried to make UX simpler and more intuitive for both kids and their parents.

Modern and Simple

First of all, I focused on improving elements to make the website feel more functional and easy-to-use. I got rid of some useless parts, simplified the font for text blocks and minimized the colour scheme.

Configurator

Secondly, I improved clothes configurator:

-          reduced the number of steps to create a final product

-          displayed all necessary options to make an order on one page

-          changed fabric navigation

Responsive

Finally, the website elements and page structure were changed to look perfect in all resolutions.

Conclusion

The ideal combination of main colours (grey and orange), font (Aleo Open Sans) and elements order contribute to the overall look. The website feels fresh and clear.

It was fun to work on such a project. I was able to try new ideas and be creative in that.
